Occupational First Aid
This is a comprehensive 3-day QQI / FETAC Level 5 Certification Course that covers all the essential aspects of the Occupational First Aid requirements. The Occupational First Aid course now includes Cardiac First Responder training in automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and administering aspirin for heart attack patients.
The Occupational First Aid Regulations Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work General Applications Regulations S.I. No. 299 of 2007. Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007, there is a requirement on employers based on a risk assessment to have a sufficient number of Occupational First Aiders trained and deployed in the workplace.
All participants receive a comprehensive First Aid manual. The assessment is conducted by an independent Registered Occupational First Aid Instructor. The course consists of 8 units as listed below and includes Cardiac First Responder training in Automated External Defibrillators (AED’S). 999 Emergency Training is an OFAAA (Occupational First Aid Assessment Authority) Training Provider. Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, participants are presented with an Occupational First Aid Certificate, which is valid for two years.

In the classroom, students participate in simulated scenarios. Students work with a Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council Instructor to complete skills practice.
Course Format
The course requires 3 days complete, including skills practice and assessment. While the main content of the course is general, each course is different in terms of learners, circumstance and requirements. There is an assessment with this course for certification.

There is no minimum age requirement set out in the current Education & Training Standards, however, an individual should be mature enough to comprehend the knowledge, skills, and implications associated with defibrillation and have the maturity to complete assessment to receive certification. Currently recognised institutions use 16 years of age as a benchmark.
